Throughout our lives we have experiences that undoubtedly initiate a feeling of being victimised. It is important we acknowledge this feeling of victimisation and meet, deal with the emotions that emerge. They take us into a place of needing external support, care as we deal with our vulnerability. Here we are usually blaming reality or others, and this can be an important part of the healing process.
Victim Consciousness can be described as a state where we have become addicted to this state and it has become all too familiar part of our reality. I know this all too well as it was a central foundation of my reality for 15 years during my depression.
Here, we are (often unknowingly) perpetually blaming the external world, Universe, others for our predicaments. Or it means we just do not feel we are worthy…This leads to experiencing deeper unworthiness, lack, limitation, fear of moving forward, doubt, insecurity, inferiority, passivity, stuck, comparative with others, feeling small…often leading to bouts of suffering, despair and depression.
We all have elements of victim consciousness in our psyche and this is related to how we deal with the circumstances that trouble us in the first place. Nobody has a guidebook on how to deal with life in the most 'aligned' way, so we are all learning along the way. This is key as it allows us to move away from self judgment for feelings of victimisation.
Usually victim consciousness doesn't want to let go of this state because on some level it is bringing us comfort. It is easier to say we cannot do something or to blame and point a finger for our troubles than to do the scary yet courageous & challenging work of facing our own limitations, emotions, actions...essentially owning our reality.
Victim consciousness relies upon feeling special for one's circumstances, yet with a negative slant. Here due to feeling special, we interpret this as being exempt from the ways others live by. This often means we have little or no incentive to create positive change for ourself.
Victim consciousness often runs in the background and affects everything we do and experience with a frequency of powerlessness. Here it continues to displace ownership (i.e. power) to something/someone else, which denies the individual their creative magnetic lifeforce. The result = lack.
The opposite of victim consciousness is of course Empowerment. Here life is owned and embraced and all experiences, however difficult, are seen as opportunities for growth and expansion. There is movement, expansion, adventure, joy, wonder...
